Dear
Friend of the Oratorio Society:
We will be hosting a wonderful event this spring: our
Annual Service Auction on Thursday, May 29th
2008, at Christ Church, 520 Park Avenue at the corner of 60th
Street.
The Oratorio Society of New York has been an essential
part of the cultural fabric of New York City since 1873.
The Society’s annual performance of Handel’s Messiah
has been taking place in Carnegie Hall since its opening
in 1891. In
a review on December 20, 2006, the New York Times said,
“the sense of drama and pure choral heft that has
always yielded thrilling performances remains intact”.
On its 100th Anniversary, the Society
was presented with the Handel Medallion, New York
City’s highest cultural award, for its contributions
to the musical life of the City.
The 200 members of the Society come from all
walks of life and volunteer their time for the joy of
making music together.
This event will provide funds to supplement the
Operating Budget. If
you cannot be with us on May 29th, please
join us in celebrating the history and future of one of
the most treasured institutions of our City’s musical
life by making a donation or placing an ad in the
Journal. Your
support will help continue and build on the rich
tradition of the Society.
In return, the 200 members of the Society as well
as those attending our Auction will see your ad.
The Journal will also be viewable on our Website,
www.oratoriosocietyofny.org.
Thank you for supporting our organization.
We hope to see you at a future concert or event.
Sincerely,
Kathleen Flaherty
