Tenor Philippe Castagner is widely recognized for his beautiful and natural sound on symphonic, operatic, and recital stages. He made his Metropolitan Opera debut as the First Prisoner in
Fidelio. Since then he has appeared with the New York City, Portland, and Granite State Opera companies, the New York Philharmonic, the Pittsburgh, Dallas, and American Symphony Orchestras, and in recital at Zankel Hall, the 92nd Street Y, Washington’s Terrace Theater, and Boston’s Gardner Museum.
This season, he will debut with a number of orchestras and opera companies singing Beethoven’s Ninth with Michael Tilson Thomas and the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Gustavo Dudamel and the Simón Bolívar Orchestra in Caracas, and Louis Langrée and the Mostly Mozart Orchestra. In addition, he performs Beppe in Vancouver Opera’s
I Pagliacci, Fernando (Così fan tutte) in Bilbao, Spain, and Tamino
(Die Zauberflöte) with the Arizona Opera. Other performances include with the New World Symphony in Vaughn Williams’
On Wenlock Edge, as Hylas in the Boston Symphony Orchestra’s
Les Troyens with James Levine, Bach’s St. Matthew Passion in Bethesda. He will also give a number of recitals under the auspices of Young Concert Artists as well as for the Harvard Theater Collection and San Francisco Opera.
Phillipe Castagner was born in Canada and raised in New Jersey. He and his wife currently live in Brooklyn.
