David Rosenmeyer
has served as the Oratorio Society’s Associate
Conductor since 2005. He began his conducting career as
the guest conductor of major orchestras throughout South
America, including Argentina’s Orquesta Sinfónica
Nacional and Orquesta del Teatro Colón, the Orquesta
Sinfónica de Concepción in Chile, and Brazil’s
Orchestra do Festival do Curitiba. He has also conducted
the Israeli Chamber Orchestra as well as several operas
in Tel Aviv with the International Vocal Arts Institute.
Earlier this season,
Mr. Rosenmeyer led the Bleecker Street Opera production
of the Barber of Seville and made his debut with
the Bellas Opera Company of Mexico City leading a staged
gala as part of the Cervantino Festival. This spring, he
will conduct Serse with Pocket Opera of New York
and Carmen with the New York Lyric Opera. He is a
member of the Mannes conducting staff and serves on the
faculty of the International Vocal Arts Institute as a
conductor and vocal coach.
During 2003–09, David
Rosenmeyer served as Music Director of the Bach Society
of Columbia University where his performances included
the New York premiere of Guarnieri's Missa Diligite.
He was also the Music Director of Horizon Concerts
(2005-10), an outreach program that brings classical
music to New York City schools. He made his Carnegie
Hall debut in 2007 conducting the Oratorio Society in
Stravinsky’s Mass. In 2002 he was music
director and pianist for the world premiere of The
Sandman, an opera by Thomas Cabaniss directed by
David Herskovits in a production by Target Margin
Theater.
Born in Argentina, Mr.
Rosenmeyer began his studies in Israel where he spent
much of his childhood. After returning to Argentina, he
studied choral conducting at the J. J. Castro
Conservatory of Music and orchestra conducting at the
UCA. He holds a Master’s degree in conducting and
music theory from the Mannes College of Music and is a
recipient of the Felix Salzer Award and a grant from the
Joyce Dutka Foundation.
