Last spring, the board reluctantly raised the Society’s dues to
$175 per year. Dues had not been raised since the 1990s. Given the current economy, it is understood that the increase may pose a hardship to some members. If you can pay the full amount, please do so. If you cannot, pay last years dues of $150 and write “total payment” on your check.
Dues must be paid by check only. Make your check payable to the
Oratorio Society of New York. Please write your name and chorus number on all checks and memos. Note that there is a $15 fee for
bounced checks. Payments may be made in person or mailed to the office (1440 Broadway 23FL, NYC 10018). Dues for
Messiah only are $125, but you must have Kent’s approval.
The Society relies on the generosity of its members and supporters, especially during these financially difficult times. Please try to make a
contribution to the Society in addition to your dues payment. In addition, check out
matching-grant policies with your employer. A case can be made that dues are a charitable contribution. Check with your accountant. Ticket purchases, however, are not usually contributions. See me if you think your situation warrants an exception.
By Board resolution, dues must be paid in full by the 6th regular rehearsal, which this year falls on
October 13, unless special alternate arrangements with the Treasurer are made. It is each chorus member's responsibility to make sure that his or her dues status is in order by then. Members who have not paid in full or made alternate arrangements by Oct. 13 will be charged a
late fee of $25.
Two types of alternate arrangements are available, based on financial need.
1. Installment payments can be made on
Sept. 22, Oct. 13, and Oct. 27. Please give me a note explaining when you plan to make payments.
2. Some or all of the dues may be waived in cases of extreme need. Kathleen has the assistance forms. If part of your dues is waived, you must pay the balance by Oct. 27.
All special arrangements must be made by September 22. Members whose dues status are not in order by October 13 may not be listed in the program. Members whose dues are not paid in full by October 27 may not be permitted to sing
Messiah but will be charged for the full year. No special arrangements can be made to extend dues payments beyond October
27. All other bills (tickets, music) must be paid in full before the
Messiah performance.
